I'm Back!!! I'm Ready!!! I Have No Choice But To Be!!!

Good Morning to ALL,

The last time I wrote in my blog was February 21, 2011. What a shame that I have been away for so long! In truth, I had a lot of internal worries blocking me from my progress and growth in life, that I completely shutdown. After my last post of having a mental breakthrough on the origins of some of my habits, this wave of negative emotion took hold. Once I realized that something in my childhood greatly affected me, and how it spiraled into a slew of different defend mechanism in my teenage and adult life,  I couldn't get a grip on my emotions. After some time away and growing pains, I'm back in action.

So what have you missed?

Happy Birthday to Sheena
Located in Spanish Harlem, NYC
Mofongo with Steak

Well, I officially turned 25 in March. Hooray for me! I had a nice dinner with a friend at this spot called La Casa Del Mofongo up in Spanish Harlem. The food there was excellent! Mofongo (for those who don't know) is a fried plantain-based dish from the island of Puerto Rico. You can mixed the fried plantain with anything you wish: chicken, seafood, pork, veggies, steak, etc. It's absolutely delicious!!! And to top it off, I had a Morrir SoƱando shake: orange juice and milk with a little sugar. I really, really, really, really, like food, so this was an great place to tame the beat in my tummy. :) Check out this wonderful spot! You will not be disappointed.

On March 26, one of my high school besties took me out to eat for my b-day as well to this place called
Sambuca. NOW, THIS IS A RESTAURANT!!! This Southern Italian Family-style restaurant had my taste buds activated. Not only is the environment just lovely, located on the  Upper West Side, right next to Central Park, the service was of the top level and the food was great! My friend Jessica and I decided to do a Shrimp with Vodka Sauce dish with a side of mozzarella squares. I've had Italian food before but this was one step away from being in Italy and feasting. I usually have digestive issues with red sauce and opt to eat white sauce dishes like Fettucini Alfredo, but this was so fresh that I didn't feel sick afterwards. So anyone with the same issue, try anything with a red sauce here. But just in case, bring an antacid. You never know how you might be feeling that day. The other interesting and exciting thing I noticed about this place was that is had a "Gluten Free" menu. Gluten is a special type of protein that is commonly found in ryewheat, and barley. Therefore, it is found in most types of cereals and in many types of bread. Not all foods from the grain family, however, contain gluten. Examples of grains that do not have gluten include wild rice, corn, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, quinoateffoatssoybeans, and sunflower seeds. Gluten is what gives dough is elasticity, helping it to rise when baked into bread, for example. Some people are allergic to this protein and therefore have to be careful when going out to eat. Sambuca provides a "Gluten Free" menu which caters to those with this allergy. Thumbs up for the consideration of others!!!

Snowboarding Anyone?
Getting my boots on!

So in March, I went snowboarding for the first time. That was intense! I went with a friend to Vermont for a 2 day vacation from the city. We stayed with an old friend of his (thanks Sam!) and threw ourselves down a mountain. Well, in truth, I didn't get very far. I stayed on the bunny hill. Sad, I know! But, my dreams are definitely coming true because little adventures like that one are on my bucket list. One down and many more to go.

Bob Marley Burton Snowboard

We hit the slopes early in the morning. I mean real early! Smuggles Notch was so pretty! There was snow EVERYWHERE! Now clearly there was snow, but when you live in the city and all you see is slush and yellow snow, trust me, pure, clean white, edible snow is exciting! I was so excited and so frustrated at the same time since I don't really have a good center of balance and kept falling. But low and behold, I made it down the bunny hill at least once. I was so inspired after many falls and the board eating my finger (Man! I wish I had a pic of that... my poor thumb) that I decided snowboarding is going to be my winter sport from now on. So now, I'm pricing boards, bindings and helmets OH MY! And look what I found. That's RIGHT!!! Me and Bob are going to glide down a mountain together! ::Sigh::

Who Wants A Ride?!?!

So when I turned 25, one of my besties, Val, asked me a wonderful question... she asked:

A quarter life crisis? Nope, its called FRRREEEDDDOOMMM!!! lol There comes a time in a woman's life.... nah, forget it, I'm not going there lol. But yes, New York State lost their minds and gave me a motorcycle permit. The test was actually really easy. Now comes the hard part. This coming May, I will be registering with a school sponsored by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and getting this license under my belt. For those seeking to get a motorcycle license in the State of NY, please check out the NYS DMV website. Here you will find the Motorcycle Manual. For further information on certified training schools, check out http://www.ridemss.com/index.php.

My Future Child ::sigh::

CHOOSE HAPPINESS

Now, I can be a little extreme sometimes. It's my character and sometimes I love it and other times I hate it for the trouble it can get me in. But nonetheless, it's me and I flow with it. So I used to have long hair almost down to my booty. I was planning to donate it to Locks of Love but I couldn't because my hair was very weak and breaking off. It was so damaged from coloring and from excessive heat from a flat iron. I had been talking about chopping my hair off for the longest time but friends and my mom guilt tripped me into keeping it. Well, one day I decided that I was gonna go the Buddhist monk route and chop it all off. The night was young, I was annoyed and I took a clipper to my dome! But then the clipper jammed, and I cried out to my mommy (pathetic I know) to fix me up. Good thing she studied cosmetology in
high school. 2 hours later she left me with a decent cut. Now, its just a matter of growing out some new, healthy, stress free hair. Soon, I will be blogging about some new products that are helping my hair remain healthy, from the inside out.

After my hair moment, I finally decided I wanted a tattoo. I always had mixed feelings about getting something permanent on my body but told myself I would get something meaningful and positive. I knew that some of my parental units would be very "disappointed" with me, but I stopped caring. There is this thought I have adopted and taken to heart, and that is: I came into this world alone and I'm leaving alone, they no longer hold any weight on my choices. I decided to CHOOSE HAPPINESS. Located down my left side, I had my friend Peter (www.spitfirefury.blogspot.com) tat me up. I thought it was going to hurt like heck, but it wasn't that bad. Once I got over the initial shock I was good. I think the adrenaline kicked in at the right time lol.

Tattooing is a art just like painting on a canvas, sculpting clay, or singing a song. You want it to represent you and you want to enjoy it forever. Personally, I dislike when people don't think about what they are putting on their body. I have heard so many stories of people getting so excited about getting a tattoo that they fail to consider where they are placing the tat, how big, where to get it done, etc. Then, years later they regret even getting one. So, like anything else, consider what, when, where and how you want to get artwork done on your body. If it is meaningful to you, enjoy it to the fullest, but understand the prejudices of this world may judge you for your choices and you many have to deal with the consequences that result. Also, please get to know your tattoo artist and the work they do. I have two people in my circle who are amazing tattoo artists. They are clean, concise and give you exactly what you ask for. If your looking to get a tattoo and you already see that the person is not about their business, move on and don't run the risk of injuring your body due to the ignorance of others. Also, tattoos can be pricey. Make sure your guy/girl is worth the price.

What's Going On For The Rest Of The Year

I'm hoping and preparing for the rest of this year to be an amazing one. Hopefully in May, I will be starting my online Product Brokerage/Internet Franchise. I'm still in the works of getting familiar with the company I will be working with and their products. So far so good. Running a business is one thing. Training to be a leader is another. Working with people and helping them become the best they can be is one of my passions. I dislike the way our government and others around the world have bullied us into poverty by removing financial education from our school system. I advise all to become familiar with how our governmental system works... They are not for the masses, they are for themselves. But there is no need to get upset or angry. That would honestly be foolish. It is now time to learn the rules by which they play and play the game even better than they do. I would suggest to anyone seeking a financial education to check out www.richdad.com. There you will begin to understand how to fix your financial situation. If you would like a more guided approach, contact me at sheenarubet@gmail.com. I have read plenty of books and taken many steps toward improving my financial situation significantly and can guide you in beginning your journey. I believe in leveraging the talents of people and constantly learning new ways to improve any situation, so in reality we would be helping each other. I know I can learn something from you. :)

Let's see what else... OH! I remember! Today, April 6, 2011 marks 7 months until the New York City Marathon. It has been one of my dreams to run every marathon out there. I wanted to start with my hometown, New York and then my Alma Matar city of Boston. Can I do it? Well, I will try! Today, I am starting my training. Wish me luck! I'm planning to drill my body... Marine -style... to make sure I get through it. Events like this one require a focused mindset and getting the "in-the-zone" mental stamina will require great dedication, commitment and purpose. I will log how and what I am doing daily and/or weekly, what I am eating, what I am not doing, and hopefully I inspire many of you to try something that will test your limits. If anyone wants to join me... maybe not necessarily run in the race but train and get your bodies in shape... contact me here or email me at sheenarubet@gmail.com. We can help each other reach our goals. How would you feel if you were limitless?

There are a few other things I am working on that I rather not speak of just yet. But I'm very proud of my progress in them and hopefully once I have completed them, it will be able to help and bless others. My ultimate goal in life is to help others. I have be blessed my entire life. Through the good, the bad and the ugly, I have learned so much and I'm still a babe in the grand scheme of life.

To everyone reading this... enjoy life... live it to the fullest... and always choose happiness that will last 'til the day you pass.

Blessings to all.

PS. And just to end on a positive yet funny note.. Here is my friend Angela talking about Love... ENJOY!
